Database Drives - By: Topdog
With many people contributing to map updates, guides, and other areas of the community, the databases felt left out. Submissions started to decrease, and soon enough, progress suddenly came to a halt. To end this tragic dilemma, the database crew and a few moderators decided to hold a database drive to spur up some new submissions. And in late June to early July, the second community database drive was held.
Maybe you're asking, "what is a database drive?" Well occasionally, if activity is running low in the Sal's databases, the handpicked database crew can decide upon whether or not to hold a database drive. During a database drive, people like yourself gather up all the information you can about the various items, monsters, and NPCs in RuneScape, and submit all that information to the databases. You earn points with each submission, and at the end of the drive, your points are tallied up and the top three people with the most points in each of the database categories gets a fine prize.
This year, the winners are as follows, in order from first to third place:
Item Database - Eman1051, Mano, Blueness
Monster Database - Rivel, Peace, Warrior Zynk
NPC Database - Rizzo, Hawk, Lore
As a prize, the winners all received the ability to have a custom member title, with first place winners getting to keep their member titles for 8 weeks, second place winners for 6 weeks, third place winners 4 weeks, and the grand prize winner Eman1051 got to keep his for an extra 2 weeks. Hawk, who already can change his member title, got a handcrafted signature congratulating him for his success in this event. For the first database drive, each of the winners received nice, creative signatures.
This drive was a great success, as it accumulated 2166 more points than the previous drive. While the first drive only tallied up only 1200 points, this drive totaled a grand 3366 points which is a massive improvement.
I think that's it for this time, everyone. So in all, the database drive is a great way to help out the community while at the same time compete for the opportunity of a prize, and this year's database drive went well. Be on the lookout for any future drives, and please be sure to help out with the cause!
