Interview with the Summoning Greats- By: dawesbr

After much tracking down, several rejections, and many dead-ends, I finally managed to achieve an interview with 3 of the summoning greats. At the time of the interview, they were all within the top 21 at least, one, Calibanio, even attaining first place. However, their places on the hiscores may have changed since the time of writing, and skillcapes may have already been achieved.

-----

Calibanio has been trying for 99 summoning since the start, and since summoning has been released has been number one on the hiscores several times. This interview contains one or two of his secrets of training.

-----

Thanks for taking the time out of training summoning to be interviewed.
Before summoning was released, were you doing anything to prepare?

Not really, I was ranging through and didn't really think of preparing since I didn't know much about the skill.

So did you decide to focus on summoning before or after the release?

I decided to spend all my online time to it, and decided to go for Rank 1, after the release, seeing as it is such a great skill.

Do you think that Jagex achieved the right balance when it comes to money in summoning?

Absolutely. Most people don't understand the investment.

So have you not lost any money while training?

I have spent around 40mil so far, but I'll get most of it back.

Of the wide variety of pets and monsters, which has been your favourite so far?

To be honest, I'm a noob summoner. I don't know much about any of them, I just skill.

What have you found to be the most effective way to train summoning, then?

I only share my ways with close friends since the risk of losing effectiveness due to people crowding my spot.

That's understandable, though would you mind confiding where you get your charms from?

Nechryaels, and that's all I'll say.

Are there any parts of summoning that you feel need changing?

No, so far I'm happy with everything the skill has to offer.

What does the future hold for you, after completing your summoning goal?

I want to reach the top 21 range list first of all slaying. Eventually, I hope to max all my stats.

Maybe you'll be the next Zezima! Finally, is there anything you want to say to anyone reading this?

Thanks for everyone supporting me in my clan chat, without compliments I would not have been able to stay up this long.

Thanks for your time, Calibanio. I look forward to seeing you as #1!

No problem smile.gif

-----

Part 2. Until recently, Tamethebea has been within the top 5 summoners, at one point taking 3rd place. However, he has now dropped to only the top 21.

-----

Hello. Thanks for taking the time to do this interview.

No problem.

Most people reading this probably know you are in the top 5 summoners. Are you tring for the number 1 spot?

No, my main aim is get as many levels as fast as possible, before the hype goes away and the skill is counted as pointless.

So you think this skill will be dismissed by the runescape public as "pointless"?

There have been a lot of rants going around about how the skill works. Whether it is a 'buyable' skill, how you train it, and what you do with the products. Players have been begging for the release for years and instantly decide not to train it.

So what are your opinions on the skill?

I enjoy the skill as it's a great way to meet more and more players. Also I like the fact that the familiars can help with all other skills, and I will gain a few overall levels which I hope to keep.

Would you be willing to disguise your training methods?

My training method is not ideal for most players. I train so fast using the method, which is water fiends, because I have a Saradomin Godsword and it's not always possible to get one, since the market price is currently over 100mil.

Do you have much money left, after spending on shards and the godsword?

My favourite skill is runecrafting and I have exceeded level 99, so if I don't make enough back it won't be a big difference. But I planned to lose 200mil with this skill, but now around 20-30mil, if even that.

Throughout all the monsters you have summoned and seen so far, has there been one you find most interesting or one that you like most?

As I progress through the levels, I always like the ones that require crimson charms, but I am looking forward to summoning a Bunyip. I think that it has the most ideal special attack as to how I train.

Is there anything you would do to change summoning?

I cannot really say anything now because I know that Jagex are listening to the feedback, and as a result changed the shard prices. Also, only half of the skill has been released so far, so I cannot say.

Are you looking forward to the second half? Any thoughts on the level 99 summon creature?

I have been trying to focus on the familiars that have already been released. Because worrying about something in the future is hardly going to help me. Maybe the level 99 creature will have a unique special ability, such as being able to teleport you.

A new transport system, a nice idea. Finally, is there anything you would like to say to anyone reading this?

Good luck to everyone training this skill, and it can be a good profit maker!

Thanks again for taking the time to be interview. Good luck with training.

Thanks very much.

-----

Part 3. Chrupus started off as well within the top 21. He looked like he was going to be one of the first 30 at least to achieve the skillcape, until now, as he has dropped to only the top 150.

-----

Thanks for taking the time to do this interview.

No problem, I was a bit bored anyway.

So do you find training summoning boring, then?

No, it's very enjoyable. I just don't stick to one spot for charms, so I don't get bored.

You've already said you won't disclose anything about charm locations, but would you be willing to disclose anything about training methdods?

First of all, if you are looking for a charm spot, mind any decent monster where no people are. Only use charms once or twice a day, there is no point running to the obelisk with only a few charms.

Are there any specific monsters to train on?

Waterfiends, giant rock crabs, moss giants and metal dragons. Nechyraels are very good too.

So do you have a favourite summon or pet so far?
Yes, I do have 2 favourite pets, the spiritual terrorbird and the karamthulhu. The spritiual bird restores my run energy so I don't need to take energy pots, and the karamthulhu uses powerful magic attacks, with chains of 12s.

Do you think Jagex got the money balance right with summoning?

I have spent a lot of money, but I think I can make at least three quarters back. For example, tireless run scroll gives me 45% run energy, over 2 doses of super energy potion.

Is there anything you would do to change the skill?

Yes, I would make monsters able to attack in non-multiple combat areas.

That seems like a good idea. Do you have another goal after summoning?

Not at the moment, but I think I will start making my money back, after I get a decent summoning level. By the time I get 99 summoning, I'll have a new goal set.

There have been many arguments over the release of summoning, what are your thoughts on them?

I would take off nonsummoning area, I see no point to them. Why shouldn't we be able to summon in seers village, or the Grand Exchange? People complain about the costs, but if they actually use the pouches and scrolls, they will save or make a lot of money.

Is there anything you want to say to anyone reading this?

Hmm, no, not really, I would have to say something intelligent, and I'm tired today.

Thank you again for your time, and good luck with 99 summoning.

Thanks.

The Darkest (A.K.A. Master of Penguins) Is the leader of Omega Faking Group and former faker. He owns his own website called http://www.fishbiscuits.net/ which is a Lost fan site. His RuneScape account is Aragornjack1 and he is a Member. He enjoys Lost, RuneScape, and Lord of the Rings

How is your day today?
Great, one of my best days for a while.

Why is it one of your best days?
I had a cooking class and it was fun.... plus the food turned out really delicious. I like food...

What kind of food/treat did you make?
Stuffed mushrooms *heaven* and Brie en Croute.

How do stuffed mushrooms taste?
There was lots of sausage and peppers, but I think the onions really did it.

What's your favorite food?
Ooh, Hard!!! Probably the Mahi Mahi sandwich from my local burger pub and/or medium rare bison steak.

So I'm guessing you like meat, right?
Yes, definitely.

What is your cooking level in RuneScape?
I don't know off the top of my head, but it's probably in the thirties.

How is RuneScape going for you, do you still play?
Yes, I'm a member. Things are going well, evn though I've run out of quests, my favorite activities. The Grand Exchange has helped a lot with me getting more money.

A lot of people know that you are the leader of Omega Faking Group now, how is that going?

Great, better than ever. We're having a bit of trouble with people wanting positions, but otherwise really good.

Honestly now, do you think I have the skill to take over Omega?

It's harder than you think. You'd have to put up with "The Nihilus" and all of his crazy Ideas. Lol, just kidding. Nihilus is awesome.

Do you make any fakes yourself now-a-days?
Not as much, I have some good ideas I want to keep to myself, but I can't follow through with them because my new Mac doesn't have adequate photo editing software.

Do you use any programs already installed into the Mac? Like GarageBand, Photo booth, etc.
I absolutely LOVE GarageBand. It's the best program ever. Photo Booth is fun too, but GarageBand is awesome.

Have you made any songs in GarageBand?
A couple, but I haven't had time to make a whole album. It's just really fun to experiment.

What kind of Mac do you have? iMac, Mac Book Pro, or Mac Book?
iMac OS X Tiger..

What is your favorite genre of music?
Pop. I absolutely HATE rap.

What is your favorite song?
Bring Me To Life by Evanescence and Fergalicious by Fergie.

Who is your favorite artist, Fergie?
Yes.

Any other artist's you like?

Evanescence, Queen, Survivor... pretty much anything but Rap songs and Headbangers.

What are "Head Bangers"?

A type of music. It's annoying mostly... but everyone makes such a fuss over it and it really isn't music.

What are some TV shows you like?
LOST! Heroes, Survivor, and Kid Nation are also enjoyable. Also Avatar on Nickelodeon. Amazing Race, Project Runway, Biggest Loser... I know, there are lots...

How did you get top like Avatar, that show is sort of "Kiddish"
Well, I have an 8 year old sister and 6 year old brother, I thought it would be stupid. My brother started watching it, then my dad did, so I decided to sit down and watch it.

How did you dad start watching it, that just seems a little odd that a father would...
My dad just like to join in with what his kids do, it's one of my favorite traits about him.

I think it's time to wrap up this interview. Well, thanks for your time!

Thank you, Max!

Interview with Wiltingplant - By: Draumr Hero

Can you guess who we are interviewing today? Let me give you a clue: A person who just gotten 99 cooking and has a great sense of humor and his name starts with a W and ends with a T. Can you guess now? If you guessed Wiltingplant, you're wrong! *sighs* You're right. I was joking.

Hello, how are you today? Are your plants wilting like usual?
Naturally, Farming Level still at 1 smile.gif.

What motivated you to get 99 cooking?
Long story, really. I found out that it was fast when I went and got some fishing levels. Then I tried merchanting lobsters. Then prices went way up for cooked lobs, and I didn't know why, I was level 85 at that time. And I figured that it was more fun than the money was. So I went and got 99 smile.gif.

How did you think up of a name so original like Wiltingplant?
That's a longer story. Are you sure you want to hear it?

Sure!
Let's just say our public library's interior decoration budget is constrained smile.gif.

Huh?
I had to come up with a name a long time ago, and wanted something quickly. So I hit upon the first thing I saw. Happened to be a sick fern. This name is in memory of that poor fern.

Ooh. Interesting. What is your favorite food?
Lobster. I don't eat in real life. tongue.gif

I meant in real life!
Pizza. I'm a typical teenager.

What is your definition of 'noob'?
Me.

Straight answer, eh? Are you a teacher's pet in school or a particular 'bad boy' or just a normal guy?
I'm the super-super quiet one who gets 105% in everything, you've probably seen me around.

What is your definition of 'professional' on Runescape?
Well, a professional (in the dictionary definition) is someone who gets paid to do something. So I suppose gold farmers and Real-world traders would be professionals.

Do you have any particular show/anime/cartoon you like?
I dislike all forms of anime. Tom and Jerry, the Flintstones, Jetsons, Roadrunner and Wiley E. Coyote are much better.

What is your opinion on leet?(l33t)
Annoying. st00p1d, 1 mite say.

What is your second favorite Runescape fansite? (assuming Sals is first)
I'd have to say tip.it or truthscape. Truthscape for the economic tips, and tip.it for the calculators.

TruthScape?
Not many people have. If you recall the big map of world-2 trading areas about 3 months ago that made the rounds of the screenshot boards, that was made together by the owner of TruthScape, Qeltar.

What do you think about the community in Sals?
Hm. There's several different parts to the community, you know? tongue.gif
Every corner has its own people, really.
Overall, we're like fruitcake. A few nuts and some odd red things all thrown together with some yummy stuff.

I guess we'll stop here for now, thank you for your time! Do you have any particular shout-outs to any particular person?
Hm. All my Runescape friends and everyone on Sal's chat. I have too many to list. Hi guys! wink.gif

Well guys, I think its a little short or not, but I don't know, so opinions guys?

Interview with Jdamon588 (Part One) - By: Draumr Hero

Today we'll be interviewing Jdamon588, who encountered a interesting incident about mutes and bans.

Hello Jdamon588, how are you today?
Good, how about you?

Fine. Thanks for asking.
We heard that there was a muting incident on your account, care to tell us the whole story?
Well back when I was immature, I got 2 offensive language reports which gave me 5 blackmarks. Then a year or two later in November 2007, I was giving a friend my clan site, but I accidentally said it in public in World 1. And of course with all those people, someone was bound to report. That offence added 9.3 blackmarks to my account. Giving me a total of 14.3 and I got permanent muted.

Gee, that was long, tell us how you got unmuted?
Well there was a point when they began to change the offense system. At that time my account got banned. I appealed all my offenses to get last chance appeal, of course they were all denied. Soon after that my account got unbanned without last chance appeal. Apparently the work they were doing caused some muted players to get banned. After they changed the system, my blackmarks reduced to 11.1. Then a month or so later, after initially denying my appeal to my advertising offence, I looked back and it said that it had been accepted. My blackmarks went down to 1.1 and I was un-muted.

This is very interesting, well congratulations on getting un-muted. Runescape life must be a lot better for you now, eh?
Yea, I got used to being muted, but being able to talk is great, I forgot how great it was in-fact I love the clan life, so being able to talk to my clanmates again was terrific..

Do you have any particular thing you like to do on Runescape?
Well, I like to mine. I have 77 mining and my goal is to get 85 by the start of summer. I like to skill a lot, I also have 73 woodcutting, 63 smithing, 50 crafting, 66 fishing, 65 cooking and 37 runecrafting. Anything that makes a decent amount of money on F2P. I also like to do stuff with my clan , warring, training, whatever, just socializing with my friends is fun.

What is your total level and do you have any items you particular like you'd like to mention?
My current total is 926, oh and my Full Saradomin except for helm which I lost in battle several months ago, right now working towards a santa or a mask, don't know which one I want yet.

Well, lets move on to real life, how old are you?
17.

What's your favorite food?
Cheeseburger

Well thank you, this is the end of Part 1, look out for Part 2 in next month's issue. Do you have any particular shoutout to anybody? Thank you for your time.
Wanna say hey to uglybruno3, xcellance, jurotte, warriorx255, my friends and clanmates, and I know she won't see but also to my girlfriend Christie, and no, thank you for interviewing me!
