Graphics Reorganization - By: Cookthechef and Definition

After requests from many artists at Sal's, they got what they want; Change. Organizational change went through the graphics boards which gave the members more variety.

As before, the graphics section was split into four boards, and it still is. However, those two of those boards have their own sub-sections which gave members maximum efficiency, and accuracy. Pixel artists and digital artists were mainly affected by the change. Pixel artists now have the extra option of kits, along with the same options that digital artists had at the former board (Rate My Work, and Shops and Requests). Both boards (Digital and Pixel) have a new sub section called Projects and Competitions which makes activities on the boards easier than where it was previously located in the Requests forum. The Digital Gallery offers external resources whilst both sections forward to the Tutorials Mod.

Currently, members are impressed with the reform. New projects are starting to take off, while older ones are improving.

Anyone who remembers back to the March 2007 Edition of the Newspaper may Remember the Pixel Collaboration we Featured.

It has been almost a year since the last one, and so, a second one has been set up by Anonymous Joe. For those that don't know what a Pixel Collaboration is, it is a picture made up of several pictures by different artists put together to look like one bigger picture.
The New Collaboration is currently in creation, but if you would like to sign up and help, there a still alot of places left.
See here for more details or to sign up.

Graphics Kits - By: Andyana

In the graphics section of the Newspaper, we seem to cover all aspects of graphics on the forum, but one we don't seem to cover can be found within the Pixel Studio on the forum, the Kits Section.

Many people who use the forum, will at one point have seen something Graphics Kit related, either in an avatar or signature, But some of you may not have known were these avatars or signatures come from. So for you people I will explain.
People who go on varies art websites, may have heard of Dolls or Micro-Heroes, These are the basis of Graphics Kits. Using a Base of a person, artists would draw clothing over the top of the base (similar to dressing up a doll but with Pixels). This is usually done with Microsoft Paint, but it is possible to do it with other programs such as Photoshop. However due to the fact it is a relatively medium 24-bit, makes it easier to use and still looks effective.
Graphics Kit spawn from this, as it is a basis of placing pieces of clothing or weapons together over a base or just piecing them together where the Lines match.
Dolls and Micro-Heroes have been around since early versions Of the Microsoft Pain Program, and was mostly a basis of Men used Micro-Heroes and Women used Dolls. This still seems the case, as Graphics kits haven't gotten off across the web as well as hoped, but has made quiet an impact to a few websites, including this one.

Just after the birth of Runescape 2, one of the Players; Alias "Buddy" Created his own version of Dolls and Micro-heroes, formally know as "The Buddy Kit", basing it around Runescape. This was not so successful but did allow Buddy to create The Second version "The Buddy Kit 2". With Help from Other Runescape Forums, the second kit became quiet popular and spanned itself across different websites across the web. Other Expansions for the kit was made for other games and a fan base was made. "The Buddy Kit" inspired many people to create there own versions.

One of the Forums that was Hit by the Buddy Kit was Sal's, and after the last reformation of the Graphics Place, the Pixel Studio was born, giving Members an excuse to make there own Kits.

One of the Most Successful Kits at the moment on Sal's at the Moment on Sal's is the Bunny Kit, Created By iBunny.

Hello Kingy
Hi Andy
What would your Definition of a Graphics Kit be?
Well... there are many philosophical and metaphorical implications of the explanation. It is a doohickey where you can make little people from a collection of clothes.. much like dressing up a Barbie doll!
So, you are quite a regular on the Kit Forum, What do you like most of about Kits?
Well its that people with lots of skill for example doomcreator0 and someone with alto less skill can do the same thing.. and it lets people just make whatever they want and I just love making the items.
How did you get into making Kits?
Making the items for the buddy kit three started me off!
How long have you been making things for kits for?
Hmm.. Id say about three years. Was about this time three years ago that I first found the buddy kit s7 forums.
Intriguing, tell us more about the buddy kit forum.
It's kind of vague in my mind but my fondest memory is the role playing sub forum, there was a long running story where the people were opposing sides of an evil force.. elves and men and the elves were persecuted!
The Buddy Kit forum sounded like fun, What happened to it
Well... it was probably the best forum Ive ever been on but something happened to Buddy. Also somebody hacked the forum, people tried to resurrect it but it never happened.
Would you say the original Buddy kit got old as well?
Erm... I wouldn't say old but people started to leave the forum, gradually becoming less active... So I joined Sal's properly! Think the very very first person who's fault it is i started it all would be Beeboy, I googled runescape on google and his Sal's buddy kit two comic was the first result
So you make your own kits now. What was your first?
The Bunny Kit Original but back then it was The Bunny Kit. I was very egoistic back then and didn't let anyone make anything for it.
I see, Well you've made many more kits since then, can you name a few?
All my kits are (even some ones who you guys at home haven't seen), The Bunny Kit Original., The BK2 (not released version), The Bunny Kit Two, The BK3 (not released version [was iso]), The Little Kit, and now my latest one the RealRune Kit!
So how do you make kits then
Well to be honest i used the Buddy Kit as a reference for Bunny Kit One but the rest have just evolved from my own creation. I use the pencil tool, the thumbnail window and alto of time.
What do you do when going about drawing templates? As the creator of many kits you must be a pro at this.
I draw each piece separately.
What about colouring, Any special styles you like to use?
umm. I just do a mix between pillow shading and erm... Pillow shading! But i despise dithering. On my normal pixels I don't pillow shade. I only do it on my kits to save time.
Kits don't really need to look realistic, do they?
Nope but in my newest kit it does. It depends, facing straight on kits are hard to make look realistic.. but its obviously possible.
Alright. Any Tips for beginners who want to try making kits?
Make items like I did, don't try to make a kit first. You will epic fail.
Any tips for more experienced "Kitters" who may need advice
Practice makes perfect. Look at some of my original stuff then look at some of the later stuff, you can see the improvement.
Any Last things you would like to say to our readers?
All your time are belong to us!
Thanks for your time Kingy
Thanks!
