Interviews

In the fifth issue of Sal's newspaper we have four interviews with four completely different members. We have an interview with Kuemper, one of the members who have recently been promoted to distinguished member. We have an interesting but humourous interview with Congealed Cucumber, and he was interviewed when he was a relatively new member. And lastly, we have an interview with the member, Scary Monkey, the founder of the NPC database.

Interview With Kuemper - By: Stuud

Were you surprised when you became a DM?

Oh yeah. I felt like someone hit me in the back of the head with a board. I never thought I'd be one, ever.

When you were a new member at the forum, did you admire anyone? If so who?

I admired Mrcsupertrain, Neo Avatars, Cxkslei, Simple 013 and Kuittaa when I first signed up. They came across as people who knew the game well and were willing to provide answers.

Quick question, pirates or ninjas?

Ninjas, because most people say pirates.

So, rumor has it that there's dwarf weed in the DM boards... Is this true? If so have you tried it?

Dani's taking care of that, which makes it hard for new DMs to try any. =)

Hilary Clinton is running for President. So is Barack Obama. Being as U.S. hasn't ever had a female or African American president, do you think this will hinder their chances of winning?

To be honest, I don't care. Unless they are the only 2 candidates, some guy is going to win (even if he's the leader of the Looney Party).

Alright well lets talk a little bit about RuneScape now, okay?

Yayness!

How did you find out about RuneScape?

My husband was playing it. I asked him what it was and how he found it. He said it was a free online game that he found during a Google search. I did the same thing and got hooked.

So what is your RuneScape characters name? How did you choose this name?

My "main" is Kitt Fox, whom I've been playing for almost 3 years. My first character was messed up because I didn't know what I was doing, so I made another one. My husband introduced me to the BattleTech universe about the same time and I decided to name my second character after a BattleMech. It took a while to find a name without numbers in or after it. I ended up with Kitt Fox, named after the Kit Fox 'Mech. I'd mispelled it on accident by adding a second T.

What level are you now?

My combat level is 97 and my total level is 1778.

What is your pastime in RuneScape?

Right now I'm trying to get 70+ in all skills, which isn't easy because I don't like training Slayer. Other than that, I check my fruit trees and bushes and make sure Miscellania (and Prince Brandt) are doing good. I guess I do a lot of skilling more than anything.

How did you find Sal's?

I was looking for help on Creature of Fenkenstrain quest. I had so much trouble finding the brain! I did a search for RuneScape guides and Sal's was the first on the list.

So what made you join Sal's?

Well, I peeked into the forums and saw how it was so different from the official forums. You could ask a question on Sal's and not have to constantly keep bumping your topic in case someone, somewhere might have an answer.

What do you think is the best thing about Sal's?

Members are willing to help out each other.

Is there anything else that you would like to say to Sal's forum community?

Thanks for letting me play here.

Interview With Congealed Cucumber - By: Monte Kyle

With this interview, I'd like to introduce you to Congealed Cucumber. Many of you may not know him as he is still relatively new to the community, so why not take a peek at the person behind the moldy cucumber avatar?

First thing's first, briefly introduce yourself and tell us one odd or interesting fact you'd like us to know about you.

My name is James and I'm an alcoholic. Only joking, interesting facts eh? I don't like Mouldy Cucumbers (OMG).

You seem to like music. What's your favorite style, a few bands you like, and why?

My favorite style music would be Indie, though I like most mainstream rock. Bands like The Killers, Chili Peppers, Muse and Oasis, I like chill-out music, the dude culture is the best.

What is the most embarrassing song that you like?

That Xmas song by The Cheeky Gals was pretty funny, had a right laugh at a party with that playing. *shudder*

What is your favorite movie genre and a couple of your favorite movies? Also, it is mandatory that you tell us a quote from one of your favorite movies in your answer.

My favourite movie would have to be comedy. My favorite movies are Monty Python - Holy Grail and Life Of Brian and stuff like Airplane and Austin Powers! "Yeah, Baby, Yeah!"

I understand you've had a recent video game-related tragedy in your life, what happened there?

Yes, unfortunately I have. My wee sister was playing The Sims 2 (who plays that on a Playstation?) and then her character died in a fire, she went crazy and started kicking it!

Before that fateful day, what were some of the games you enjoyed playing most?

I liked Need for Speed Carbon + Most Wanted & GTA: SA, I had just gotten Canis Canem Edit as well and I was enjoying that (AKA Bully in the US).

You seem to have an interest in comedy cartoons, as do most other people. Tell us your top favorite shows and favorite character from each.

Futurama is my all out favourite but I also like American Dad and Family Guy. The best characters out of those would be Fry, Roger (the alien) and Stewie.

Tell us one of the moments you laughed the hardest while watching one of those shows.

There is an episode of American Dad where Francine takes a job as an estate agent and is showing a couple around a house, they say "yeah, we will be needing the extra room soon." So Francine says "Oh so you are pregnant, I didn't want to say anything incase you were just fat," and they say, "we're adopting" LOL! That always cracks me up.

So you think you're pretty fashionable, huh? Tell us a little about your style.

I wear sort of skater-like clothes, like baggyish jeans and hoodys.

Describe your favorite outfit for us.

Hmm. well I have these old grey-blue 501s that look really good with this light blue Polo zip hoody that's probably my favourite.

I know something that goes very well with that outfit, a good trip to Sal's RuneScape Forum! So tell us, how did you land yourself at this outstanding community?

I heard two people on RS talking about it couldn't find it with .com or .co.uk then I Googled it and really liked it, that was about November 05 only joined the forums this December though.

I've just got to ask, what's the reason behind your eccentric display name?

Well, boring as it is I just picked it at random, it would've been cool to have some freaky story behind it.

It's clear that you've shown an interest in the Debate Room. What is it you enjoy about debating?

I just like seeing the opinions of others, most of the people on there have really intelligent viewpoints (me excluded of course).

Upon entering the Debate Room and browsing through the different titles, what will make you read a topic?

I will read most things really just if there is a topic that has a current theme or something.

Be honest, how much of the first post and other members' replies do you read?

If it is just one or two pages I read it all but if there is 3+ pages of stuff to read through I just read the first page and the last.

Once you've thumbed through a debate topic, what makes you decide to post your opinion?

If someone has said something that I know is wrong or if there is someone with a clever slant on the topic then I will jump in and post something stupid to bring the tone down

When you post in the debate room, what are some important principles that you follow?

I try not to post if I don't have anything interesting to say (break that rule way too much though).

Aside from stating your views pertaining to a topic, do you often quote other members and respond to what they say?

I do that sometimes but often don't.

When another member disagrees with you, how do you handle it?

I'm fine with it as long as they have a good argument and my views have been changed in this way on this forum and more on others.

What are some current or past debate topics you enjoyed participating in?

Religion topics are always good as long as there is no flaming and God/No God, those are always fun.

Do you consider yourself a good debater? Why or why not?

No, not really, because I don't have much of an opinion on some topics.

In your honest opinion, what do you think of the debates on Sal's?

Most are good, they are top 10 on all forums I have been on.

If you do one thing to make debating better, what change would you make?

Can't think of anything seem perfect to me. Oh actually ban people with an IQ of under 592!?

Have you ever participated in a real life debate?

No I haven't I wouldn't mind though might be good, there is a debate thing at my school I might do that.

In your experience so far, what would you say is your favorite thing about Sal's RuneScape Forum?

The community of course! (Miss World answer)

Why are you still talking to me?

I wish I knew..

Well congratulations, we are now finished. But before we go, say something random. You have 5 seconds.

Keep it Cucumber & Mouldy 4 Lyfe!

Interview With Scary Monkey - By: Mrcsupertrain

Hello Scary Monkey, how are you?
I'm great, thanks!

Are you excited about this interview?
I'm very excited! I feel honored.

Great, let's get started. Tell me a little about yourself, childhood, etc.?
Hmm, well, my name is Lauren, and I am currently 11 years old. Right now, I live in Canada with my 2 brothers and a sister. My childhood has been pretty good. My family's pretty rich, and I've been in private schools all my life. I move often because of my dad's job, so it's been hard leaving my friends every year.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in lots of places: England, France, Norway, and Canada.

Where are you now?
Currently, I live in Canada, Quebec. I like it here, a lot. smile.gif

You've told me before you like to run and kayak. Are you on a track team?
Yes, it's a team of 12 people. We train every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and sometimes Saturday for an hour and a half.

Why do you like running?
Well, I like working out. It's a mere attempt at impressing boys.

Are you fast?
Well, I'm the third best in my grade, and the best girl, so I guess I am.

When did you find an interest in running?
Last summer when I moved to Canada. I been running for an hour and a half every other day since.

Let's talk about kayaking. When did you create an interest for kayaking?
Last Summer, too. I'm on a team and right now I'm on winter training, so we run together and stuff.

What's the most entertaining or funniest part about kayaking?
Seeing people, that show off all the time, tip over. tounge.gif

Have you ever been injured while kayaking?
Nope, never. Sometimes, at the end of the season, when you tip and fall into the water, you get really cold though.

Have you ever been in a dangerous situation while kayaking?
No. I haven't been kayaking that long anyway.

Have you ever used waffles as shampoo?
Mommy made me! upset.gif

What is your school like? People? Education? Etc?
Needless to say, the school I'm going to now is the first public school I've ever been to. It's pretty good I'd say. Everyone's nice, good teachers, and we finish early - 2:25.

You're shopping at JC Pennys. Instantly, you are knocked out by a banana, but you can still hear, and you hear someone shouting and dancing to the words, "It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time". What would you be thinking in a situation like this?
Scream and try to gain consciousness to run far away.

When you grow up, what career field do you want to enter?
I was thinking maybe a movie star! Don't laugh, anyone can dream!

What's the worst movie you've ever seen?
Probably 8 Mile, which was horrible. tounge.gif It WAS interesting, though.

What's the best movie you've ever seen?
To be honest, I really don't know. I dont have cable for my TV so I can't watch any shows, and I don't watch much. Usually, I just use my TV for Xbox.

Who is your favorite music group / band?
I'm not sure. I've always liked Eminem and D12.

You break your ankle while running. Your mother takes you to the doctors and they run some tests. A doctor walks into the room and explains your ankle will heal quickly. Also, he tells you you're pregnant. How do you handle this?
That would be a shock. If I were pregnant, I would prefer my mom didn't know, and I would rather that I was a bit older first. I'd be really upset and worried. I didn't know what would of happened and how I had gotten pregnant, and what would I say to my friends at school? xd.gif

Some people know you a lot because of the NPC Database, which you started. Where did you come up with an idea for a NPC Database?
It happened in December, and I just joined the forum. It was great, and there was the Sal's party. I met Quack there. We became friends and we were talking, and I was saying about how other websites had NPC databases and Sal's did not, and he said, "Why dont you start one?"

What was it like when Salmoneus accepted the idea and created the subforum?
I started it in the Guides-in-Progress forum, and it was getting loads of posts and NPCs submissions. It was hard to keep track and add all the NPCs! Then, I found out I needed Sal's permission. I messaged him, waited a week, and he didn't answer. Then, I messaged him again and got an answer. I felt so proud of myself when he made that sub-forum! I thought I would lead it (have mod powers in it), but was wrong and a bit disappointed.

Did you think Salmoneus would ever consider it, or were you taking some type of risk and having a little fun?
I didn't think he would make a sub-forum so quickly. I thought he would sticky it in the Guides-in-Progress like the Treasure Trail database.
