Graphics

In the Graphics Section this issue, there are a variety of Graphics articles to be read. This month we have an interview with Cookthechef and a special article of the Pixel Studio Collaboration Puzzle. Beret's monthly Spot the Fake is exceptionally difficult. We also have the month's special graphics awards and the summary of the SoTW. Please enjoy this month's article of Sal's Realm Newspaper.

Interview with Cookthechef - By: Red

Cookthechef, also known as Hugthechef and '07, is a prominent figure at the Graphics section. In the last issue, his "Uncle Sam is in the Heezie" was selected Large Piece of the Month. Besides doing larger artwork he is also an active signature maker, and you can find several samples on his deviantArt profile cookthechef.deviantart.com

We approached him about his works and experience with graphics.

- Hi there. You've been around in the graphics section for a while. How old are you?

14 and a 5/6

- How long have you been making graphics? Why did you start?
What got me interested was seeing buddy kits, I did that for around 2-3 months. I recieved the program Adobe Photoshop Elements, later I bought Adobe Photoshop CS2 with an employee discount. I've been doing graphics Since about May 2006, about eight months.
Some beginning pieces

- What's your favorite style?
Abstract or Old Retro Abstract.

- Do you have any favorite works or artists?

jshn
ontwerpje
mesme8
xRuMpx
blindn
and
favorite piece

- What version of Photoshop do you use?
Photoshop CS2.

- Where do you get inspiration for your work?
Music, friends, photographs, everyday life. Most important I find many artists at Sal's Runescape Forum such as Celtic, Red, and Enigma very inspiring and many artists on deviantArt.com.

- Can you explain how you made this sig?

I used c4d's, a couple custom brushes, and many filters. I used my knowledge of depth and lighting to create the lovely effects.

- Could you show us some samples of your work, and say something about them?

Favorite sig (new):

This piece I like the colors and the lights. I aquired this image from http://www.sxc.hu/index.phtml. I used c4d's and coloring abilites to create the overall feel to it. I also used basic photo editing to adjust the picture to my likings.

Favorite sig (old):

What I like most about this are the great effects and how it flows, the text is fairly nice also.

- I see you have uploaded several signature packs on DeviantArt - could you say a few words about this one?

Umm I don't quite like it. :p The last is one of my favorites though. Truthfully I do not care for much of my stuff because i can be very nitpicky and look at the small details. The first two were nice, although I believe I have greatly improved.

- In your opinion, what is the hardest thing when making a signature?
To start off, I would say image choice and text. Along with colors. Deciding on the basic image can be very difficult, because it may create a totally alternate style for the signature.

- Do you have any tips for new sig makers?
Keep trying, read tutorials, learn the skills. Don't copy off others, use inspiration and manipulate styles, make things your own. Take it from someone who knows

- Has Sal's gfx section affected you in any way as an artist, and how?

Yes - it has not only given me resources to work with, but it has supported my ideas and given me advice through these achievements.

- Do you think you'll pursue a career involving graphics?
Yes, my career will involve some form of art. I plan being in advertising or just a regular artist. Recently I have been working on my more detailed large piece, I hope to make it look nice and work hard so I can print it and hang it up in my room.

That's great to hear, Cook. Thank you for your time and keep up the good work.
Anytime : )
