RuneScape Discussion

RuneScape is big and so are the hundreds of items that are around RuneScape. Are you wondering what's going to happen to the value of that pumpkin you just bought and accidentally ate? Sgt.Pepper wrote a wonderful summary of the Trading market. How many times have you heard the word "noob" being shouted out. I'd be rich if I got 1 coin for all the times I heard the word "noob". Well, Meen has come up with a article to put our self in the other person's shoes, and he teaches us that there's a person behind that platebody. Neo Avatars also takes at the skills that most of us love to hate, and he shows us that a lot of good can come from these skills if you give them a chance.

There's A Person Behind That Platebody - By: Meen Masheen

Bad attitude towards others on RuneScape is possibly at it's highest. Can we not recognize that there are actually real people that are represented by those pixels, and that what people say or do can hurt them? Meen Masheen reports.

It's been a while since the young Dutch boy, Maarten, ended his life. In his farewell post on a RuneScape clan forum (a copy is here), he stated that there were many reasons why he was about to commit suicide - but, apparently, his last bit of suffer was due to his friend hacking his RuneScape account. Maarten felt that, afterwards, life wasn't worth living anymore.

This article is not just about account hacking. The attitude towards others on the game really ought to be improved - the amount of unhelpfulness and name-calling on the game is appalling. It seems that you cannot ask a higher-leveled player for directions anymore without having the word "noob!" hurled at you.

Granted, the rudeness and scamming levels are substantially higher on Free-To-Play worlds. I logged onto World 10, and it did not take me long to find some classic examples of nastiness. Danny_Dude72, a RuneScape player currently with a mid-twenties combat level, decided to greet a newer play unnecessarily rudely - user posted image. The level six, proudly wearing full iron armor, was simply waiting for a few coins to respawn in the basement of Varrok West Bank. I ignored Danny, and went to talk to the level six (telling him that was a terrible way to make money). Interrupting us and not sensing that he wasn't wanted, Danny_Dude72 returned and tried to stop me from talking to the level six - user posted image. To the horror of Danny, I gave the level six some gold and left. Once again, while I was just outside of Lumbridge, a level seven was fruitlessly asking a level sixty-one where he could find a bank.

We cannot all blame this behaviour on freeplayers. Often, RuneScape members think that they can enter a non-member server and can boss everybody about and generally be nasty and unhelpful - just because they pay to play. If Freeplayers are so inferior to them - why not stick to members' worlds? Here a low-leveled f2per was innocently asking a level 48 member about his team cape.

This is a problem that is not going to stop overnight. If you have had insults constantly thrown at you as a low-leveled player, then you are likely to become an unfriendly high leveled player - that is if the bad community doesn't put you off the game. It creates a vicious circle, and can unfortunately only turn RuneScape's atmosphere from bad to worse. But, readers of this article, please try to do your bit to be kind to other players. There is a person behind that platebody - treat them as you would somebody in real life.

Burning Farming Carpenters - By: Neo Avatars There are always things in life that people will not like. Nothing can be made perfect for everybody. RuneScape is a great example of something huge with complaints about it around the clock. JaGeX will never be able to make everybody who plays like everything about it, but if the players tried to like the parts they don't like as much, they will be able to have a much more enjoyable time.

Firemaking is one skill that I find complained about by people almost every day. When I look these people up on the highscores they aren't even ranked for Firemaking. How can you say you don't like something when you haven't tried it out? For me Firemaking is one of my favourite skills to train. It's easy to do if you know where and how to do it, and can even make money for you in the process! If you manage to make your way onto a busy trading world and head for either Seers Village or Falador East bank, then there are huge stretches of clear land perfect for burning full inventories of 27 logs. The reason you want to go to a busy world is simple. These are two popular places to buy and sell goods, so while burning your logs you can watch the chat screen and see if people are selling things cheap. If you have money in your inventory then you can buy these goods and make money to cover the costs of burning the logs.

One of the ways that can be used to gain these logs is by growing your own private trees using the Farming skill, something else that is often complained about. What could be easier than spending half an hour a day planting some seeds, then coming back the next day and obtaining up to 50,000 experience? It seems that yet again a large number of people that don't like Farming haven't tried it. "Farming is boring", I heard somebody who is level 2 in the skill say. If you train up enough and learn the secrets like using tree seeds to level up, this is another skill that is great fun. Not everything in life can be done instantly.

In conjunction with another skill, the costs of Farming can be obliterated completely. This skill is Runecrafting. Running backwards and forwards between a bank and the Runecrafting temple is another thing that many complain about and feel is a waste of time. This is not true because of the huge rewards that you can gain from it. Fishing, Woodcutting and Mining are the three skills that the majority of players will tell you are the best for making money. Infact, Runecrafting is a much better source of money, and you don't even need to do much work to be able to make more than even the best Fishers or Woodcutters. At a mere 50 Runecrafting you can use three of the pouches from the Abyss and have the possibility of making over 300,000 gp per hour crafting Nature Runes! This may be dangerous going through the Abyss, but this is where the fun comes in. By putting yourself in danger you forget about the tedious task that Runecrafting actually is, and more on the idea of staying alive. Using the Abyss is dangerous, but this makes Runecrafting much more enjoyable, and the rewards greater than those from any other skill.

Now that you have gained all this money from Runecrafting you will want something to spend it on. One of the most enjoyable ways to spend money is Construction. At lower levels there may not sound like much point in spending tens of millions of gp to gain the higher levels, but once you reach your target level the world is yours! By using this skill you can create your own house in which you can host parties and have huge amounts of fun on you own or with hundreds of other people. When you visit the houses of the level 99 Carpenters you notice something special about them, the fact that everything is so well designed. The Rocking Chairs and Oak Bookcases that you can build in your Parlour early on probably won't inspire you to get higher levels, but when you have seen the beauty of items like Crystal Thrones, thoughts will change. Construction includes some of the best graphics in the whole of RuneScape, and using the many hours to earn money, and then spend it again, is well worth the effort.

When the current RuneScape homepage was released, there were huge numbers of threads made in the Recent Updates and Rants forums about how bad it looked. This was all before the page was fully updated, and there were no images, just the plain text layout. If these thread makers had the courtesy to wait for the page to be completed before commenting then many man hours of Moderating time would have been saved. Now that it is complete, I doubt that many of these people who made the original threads would complain since the design is actually extremely easy to navigate around.

If people tried something out before commenting on it then everything would be much more enjoyable for all. There really isn't anything in RuneScape that anybody can dislike so much that they don't even try it out. Have a go at everything, and stop if you dislike it. Don't just comment on what you have heard other people say about it, nobody is the same and everybody enjoys something different. You may like something completely different to your best friend. RuneScape is designed to be fun, if you don't like something then don't let another person miss out due to your misfortune.

Everybody is different, so don't judge a book by its cover, and have a go at everything you have the opportunity to do.

RuneScape Stock Market - By: Sgt.Pepper

July - September 2006

Have you ever thought that an item was going to become really really expensive soon, so you bought a giant stockpile of it and it turns out it isn't worth diddily squat? No more! This article is going to be me telling you, the reader, what exactly is going on with the prices in Runescape. I won't cover every item, but I will cover a good variety.

This Month's Blockbuster:

Due to this month's biggest update, Lunar Diplomacy, which requires 61 Crafting to even start, the price of Cowhides and Soft Leather have nearly tripled in price! Cowhides last month were around 110 gold peices each, now, as of July 24, cowhides are 250, even 300 gold peices each! That is quite an upswing! If you are poor and don't have a way to make much money, try going to the cows in Lumbridge and collect some cowhides. This could be your first step towards being rich!

Armor Stocks:

When you talk about armor prices go into the Bulls and Bears, you are most likely talking about Barrows Armor, which happens to be traded mostly on World 2 and on the official Runescape Forums. In July, there wasn't a big change in prices. Most of the barrows armor stayed the same. Full Guthans did go up about 200,000 gold peices on average though. What was really more shocking was that the Dragon Chainmail actually went down in price, it was at first around 19,000,000 (19mill) gold peices, and at the moment, it is at 15,500,000(15.5m) gold peicies! That is quite a substantial drop!

Discontinued Item Stocks:

The Rare Items Market isn't really doing anything different, all the prices are going up, with one exception. The Blue Partyhat was at first around 500,000,000 (500mill) gold peices, but, I guessed it was getting to expensive and it went down a bit to 465,000,000 (465mill) gold peices. I guess that is a drop in the bucket

Beware of Easter Egg sellers by the way. They will try to sell for around 10,100,000 (10.1m) gold peices, when buyers will only pay around 8,800,000 (8.8m) gold peices. Don't buy easter eggs!

Santa Hats are actually at a broad price, ranging from 18,000,000 (18m) gold peices to 22,000,000 (22m) gold peices.

My Predictions
At the end of each month's issue of my Stock Market Report, I will give my predictions on what will go where.

Going Up?
-As we close in on the month of October, pumpkin prices will go up, and will probably crash on Halloween.
-I beleive that the Barrows Armors will begin to lick their wounds from the Construction update, when they hit rock bottom, and will begin on another upswing. Now, I am not saying they will go up forever, because in the end, all Barrows Prices go down, but keep your eyes open.

Crashing Down!
-This time next month, cowhides and soft leathers will either be just like they were before, at 110 gold peices each, or will go down to around 150 gold peices each. Either way, they aren't going to stay hot after the new Lunar Diplomacy rave starts to die down.

Well, I hope my words of wisdom will lead you to sucess!
