Entertainment - Non Fiction

Have you ever seen a movie and look at it and say, "It's just another kid's movie," and you never watch it? Well Prashanna has seen one, Cars, and has come up with wonderful review. The movie's interest was unexpected, and so will the review be. What three songs would you take with you, if you were stuck on a desert island? Meen Masheen and 123Man discuss their Tunes Whilst Marooned. Tunes Whilst Marooned - By: Meen Masheen with 123Man This is the part of the newspaper where a forumer will share what three songs they would take with them... if they were to be left on a desert island! Not that we are predicting that such an event will occur, and we also appreciate that if they were to be notified about being stranded on an island, they would spend more time trying to avoid this happening than they would choosing a few favoured melodies to accompany them. Shutup.

In this issue, 123man shares his 'Tunes Whilst Marooned'. 123Man joined Sal's RuneScape Forum on the 23rd of February 2005, and was promoted to a Distinguished Member on June 26th in the same year. Later, on the new forums, he was made Moderator on December the first, 2005. During the 'Staff Recombination' of the 2nd August, 2006, he was promoted again to Distinguished Mod.

Thirty-three by The Smashing Pumpkins - I think this song is very beautiful and it reads like poetry. One thing that was very obvious about The Smashing Pumpkins' music is that the lyrics were deeply personal, sometimes to the point of the listener having no idea what they were about. But often times I could pick out pieces that could be related to my life in a meaningful way. These were like bits of truth buried in each song. Not truth as in - some all encompassing correct answer, but truth as in - I could understand them in relation to what was going on in my life and how I felt; they were my truth. For me, Thirty-three had many of those bits within it.

Underground Network by Anti-Flag - I'm a pretty opinionated person and so I sometimes like to listen to music that reflects my opinions back at me. Even though I'm very liberal, I live my life quite conservatively. Underground Network (and Anti-Flag in general) kind of gives a voice to my inner being that wants to scream and weep at what is going on throughout the world. It also motivates me to get off my butt and try to do something - to put my time, money, and ideas where my mind is.

Pamphleteer by The Weakerthans - This is one of my newer favorites. The song just resonates with things I'm currently feeling and grappling with in my life. Just like with Thirty-three, I can relate to the lyrics in a deeply personal way."

Thank-you very much, 123man, for sharing this with us! Thirty-three can be purchased on the iTunes Music Store here , as can Pamphleteer (requires iTunes). The album Underground Network, by Anti-Flag, can be bought from Amazon here .

Cars Movie Review - By: Prashanna

Note: This review is spoiler-free.

Rating:
G - General Audiences - All Ages Admitted

I come downstairs to hear my older brother tell my parents that we're going to see Cars. "What! I don't want to see that!" I yell. "Trust me it'll be good," he reassures me. We arrive at the theatre; I still have my doubts, thinking that this will make my list of the worst movies ever; I thought it would be just another kiddy movie. The previews were over; "Featured Presentation" goes across the screen.

The movie blows me away from the beginning with a great introduction of the race track with the greatest animation and editing I've ever seen. The race begins, and ends with a surprise ending. The main character, the snobby and selfish Lighting McQueen, continues on to his next race at Los Angeles. On his way to L.A. he rolls off his truck and is stranded in the middle of nowhere, route 66. Speeding to get to L.A. on his own, he causes a lot of damage to the town of Radiator Springs and is caught by the police and is forced to fix a very long road he damaged. Once he fixes the road he would be allowed to leave. He tries to escape many times, all times unsuccessful. Once he finally fixes the road he goes to take a drive with Sally the Porsche and realizes the true beauty of Route 66. He learns that it used to be packed with tourists, but ever since the construction of a new freeway, it became the place that most cars ignored. Lightning McQueen strives to renew it.

Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios, the same people who made "Finding Nemo" and "The Incredibles" do it again, creating a great movie perfect for children and adults alike, teaching us about real friendship and to care about others. In this movie, the cars and their environment are given human qualities. The movie has great humour and even a great soundtrack. This movie gives you the opportunity to live the life of a car.
